This program is promoted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and managed through the State Research Agency. Currently, the University of La Laguna has two postdoctoral researchers whose work falls within the Juan de la Cierva program. Lidia Ana Pérez Márquez, PhD in Organic Chemistry, and Javier Cámara Manzaneda, PhD in Prehistoric Archaeology.

Javier Cámara Manzaneda is an archaeologist and researcher specializing in Prehistoric Archaeology. His research focuses on the study of human lifestyles and interactions through ceramic craft traditions, primarily from the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods of the Iberian Peninsula, but also from the pre-Hispanic period in the Canary Islands. His work is based on identifying evidence, such as technological marks or manufacturing defects, that reveals changes in the traditions of these communities and the individuals involved in ceramic production.

Through the Juan de la Cierva program, the researcher with a doctorate from the Autonomous University of Barcelona has joined the GISPRAYA research group (Research Group on Recent Prehistory Societies of Andalusia and the Algarve), coordinated by Professor María Dolores Camalich Massieu and researcher Salvador Pardo Gordó.

Currently, this researcher studies the pottery of the earliest farming communities in southern Spain, at key sites such as the El Toro Cave in Antequera (Málaga). He also participates in research related to other Neolithic contexts in the Iberian Peninsula, in the Basque Country, Catalonia, and Aragon, and in Sardinia (Italy).

The archaeologist has joined research projects on the pre-Hispanic period in Tenerife and Fuerteventura, led by the University of La Laguna. He believes this postdoctoral contract provides him with the opportunity to develop his own line of research, while also strengthening his ties to leading research groups in the field and expanding his collaborative networks with researchers from various institutions.

Lidia Ana Pérez Márquez, PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of La Laguna, had previously focused her research on fluorescent sensors. For this postdoctoral research stay, she joined the MOLCAN research group (Molecular Bases of Human Channelopathies), led by Professor Teresa Giráldez Fernández and part of the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of La Laguna.

This stemmed from his interest in electrophysiology research, a field in which he wanted to expand his knowledge. This research group focuses on studying the structure-function relationship of ion channels, a type of protein present in the cell membranes of various cell types, including neurons. Furthermore, their work explores the relationship of these structures to human channelopathies, which are diseases caused by the malfunction of these proteins.

The project under which this researcher's postdoctoral contract is framed involves studying the relationship between the BK ion channel and the NMDA receptor. Pérez Márquez considers her Juan de la Cierva fellowship an opportunity to contribute her prior training in fluorescent sensors to the work developed by this team. This will also allow her to broaden her research experience and consolidate her position in research at the interface between the fields of chemistry and biology, an area in which she aspires to continue working in the future.

Since 2020, the Juan de la Cierva research grants have been part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which aims to promote the stability of scientific careers. This program was established in 2004 in honor of the engineer Juan de la Cierva y Codorníu, inventor of the autogyro.

The Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral research grants encourage the integration of young researchers into Spanish R&D centers by…

[183,35,6,36,37,10

post-2033","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ciencias-medicas-basicas","category-departamentos","category-destacado","category-geografia-e-historia","category-investigacion","category-portada-ull

https://www.ull.es/portal/noticias/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/10/javier-camara-ana-perez-300x200.jpg
["GET
