A delegation from the University of La Laguna has been participating since yesterday (Tuesday, May 13) in the fifth edition of the International Week in the University of Silesia in Opava<\/a> (Czechia), one of the nine European universities that, together with the ULL, make up the alliance STARS EU<\/a>. The event, which will run until May 16th in the School of Business Administration in Karvin\u00e1<\/a>, It addresses the challenges and opportunities of innovation, curriculum internationalization, and university collaboration in Europe.<\/p>\n

This edition has brought together around 85 people who actively participate in different lines of work within the alliance. According to Jos\u00e9 Sigut, Director of the Secretariat for Mobility and Cooperation with Europe and North America, and coordinator of STARS EU at the University of La Laguna, it is a strategic space for sharing best practices, advancing joint projects, and strengthening the international dimension of curricula\u2014the latter being the focus of one of the sessions.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Sigut leads the delegation from the University of La Laguna in Karvin\u00e1, along with Ernesto Pereda, director of the Higher School of Engineering and Technology, and member of the STARS EU steering committee, Sara Darias-Curvo and Pedro Toledo, both teaching and research staff, as well as technicians Javier Quijada and Laura Esquivel, integrated into different groups and work packages of the alliance.<\/p>\n

Innovation and collaboration<\/strong><\/p>\n

The opening of International Week was led by Rima Dijkstra, general coordinator of STARS EU, who highlighted in her opening speech the importance of promoting innovation and academic collaboration in the field of European higher education, as well as emphasizing that this fifth edition combines institutional presentations, academic workshops and cultural activities.<\/p>\n

The first day's agenda focused on academic sessions exploring emerging topics such as neuromarketing and creativity. Simultaneously, hybrid sessions were held for STARS EU's strategic activities, targeting the working groups of the Regional Transition Accelerator, the Curriculum Lab, the Entrepreneurship and Innovation TIG, and the Digital Transformation TIG.<\/p>\n

The program planned for the following days will address digital transformation and regional innovation, with hybrid working sessions aimed at the STARS EU thematic groups, such as the Curriculum Lab and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation group, where there is also representation from ULL.<\/p>\n

In parallel, conferences will be held for students and academic staff, focusing on corporate management control and co-creation in educational settings. A practical workshop on new networking methods and a visit to the POHO 2030 project\u2014focused on regenerating the region's post-mining landscape\u2014will add a local and sustainable dimension to the event.<\/p>\n

Thursday, May 15, will be dedicated to key issues for the future of higher education, such as curriculum internationalization, multilingualism, and intercultural learning. Several European experts will offer workshops on academic digital tools, as well as a specialized session on incorporating a global perspective into curricula.<\/p>\n

Thursday the 16th will also include a cultural workshop on Czech language and traditions, and will conclude with a gala dinner that will bring this intense week of work to a close.<\/p>\n
