In this way, the FCS is reviving a global forum for the defense of a resource that is essential from a sporting, cultural, social, economic, and environmental perspective.

The conference will be held on September 25th and 26th near the beach, considered a surfer's paradise. The event takes place in El Socorro fifteen years after the first international conference, also held in Tenerife, which brought together academics from around the world and served as the impetus for waves to become the focus of the global Waves Conference movement.

“We seek an international exchange of knowledge and experiences and aspire to create a space that addresses issues related to the defense of the waves, which are still highly relevant. Our intention is to reclaim a workspace for building community networks at the local and international levels. This year we are starting with a modest proposal whose objective is to continue it in future editions, because these networks are built at a pace that respects the dynamics of all participants,” explains Adrián García, vice president of the FCS.

The sessions are open to anyone interested in the general theme and the planned program, in which local experts – the professors of the University of La Laguna and surfers Ángel Lobo, Yurena González and Adrián García – and international experts – Ana Manero (Australia), Ángelo Picardo (El Salvador), Carolina Butrich (Peru) and Juan Esteban Buttazzoni (Chile) – participate, linked to the protection of the waves from different perspectives.

To participate in the activities, prior registration is required and can be completed via a form on the Socorro Classic website. Sessions begin at 5:00 PM on both days, in a hybrid format that allows both in-person attendance on the beach and digital participation via live stream. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to those who complete the 80-minute session of the program.

Program and participants

The program begins on Thursday, September 25th at 5:00 PM with an opening ceremony attended by local and academic authorities. These presentations will be followed by a roundtable discussion, "Is Protection Possible with a Local Approach?", moderated by Yurena González, PhD in Sociology from the ULL.

The first session of the conference concludes at 7:00 PM with a screening of the film 'Triumph', a documentary produced by Sunday Film Maker and supported by @bodyboardsniper and @jonsenisland.
