Since 2019, Stanford University has published a ranking of the world's most influential scientists, using objective parameters such as citation count to determine their global relevance. It uses information obtained from the Scopus database, divided into 22 major scientific areas and 174 subfields. most recent version of this list<\/a> It has been recently published and includes 40 people affiliated with the University of La Laguna, 9 more than in the last year's list<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This ranking presents the results in two different lists, taking into account the data collected by the Scopus database up to July 30, 2025. The first one orders the research staff taking into account their entire career and includes 230,333 people, while the second refers only to the most cited people during the year 2024 and has a total of 236,314 records.<\/p>\n

In the first list, the University of La Laguna has 23 representatives (four more than last year), and in the second, 29 (eight more). However, since 12 researchers appear on both lists, the total number of different individuals is 40. It should also be noted that the lists include retired or even deceased individuals, as they may have been responsible for significant work in their respective fields that continues to be cited despite its age.<\/p>\n

Thus, the retired psychologist Manuel Guti\u00e9rrez Calvo appears on both lists; astrophysicists Carlos Allende Prieto<\/a>, Alexander Vazdekis and Johan K. Knapen; the chemists David D\u00edaz D\u00edaz<\/a>, Ricardo M. Souto<\/a> y Miguel \u00c1ngel Rodr\u00edguez-Delgado<\/a>; the computer engineer Carina Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a>; The specialist in graphic expression in engineering and architecture Jorge Mart\u00edn<\/a>; the chemicals Javier Hern\u00e1ndez Borges<\/a> y Ver\u00f3nica Pino<\/a>; and the doctor Lucio D\u00edaz Flores<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The list that evaluates the global scientific career also includes the psychologist specializing in education Eduardo Mart\u00edn<\/a>; The doctors Emilio Sanz<\/a>, Gundela Meyer and Enrique Quintero<\/a>; the mathematician Jorge Garc\u00eda Meli\u00e1n; the molecular biologist Nestor Torres<\/a>; the pharmacist Jos\u00e9 Manuel Padr\u00f3n<\/a>; and the chemicals\u00a0Gonzalo Garc\u00eda<\/a>, Elena Pastor<\/a>, Pedro N\u00fa\u00f1ez Coello<\/a> and Juan Carlos Ruiz Morales.<\/p>\n
