Microdegrees are specialized programs that the University of La Laguna will implement starting in the 2026\/27 academic year. They consist of 24 to 36 credits and are based on subjects from existing degree programs, with the aim of obtaining a specific certification in a particular subject. Social Council<\/a> has given its approval to the first three today, July 23.<\/p>\n

These programs are open to students who have successfully completed at least the first year of their degree and wish to specialize in a particular field. The first is a Microdegree in Film History and Language, consisting of four six-credit courses, primarily aimed at Humanities students, with ten places available. If places remain, it could be offered to students outside this field and even to individuals from outside the university.<\/p>\n

The second is the Microdegree in Graphic and Visual Communication, which allows students to acquire skills in creating visual narratives and graphic storytelling. It is designed for students of Journalism, Restoration of Cultural Heritage, and Fine Arts, but could also be offered to professionals in the field if places remain available. It offers five places and four subjects.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The third is a Microdegree in Technical and Digital Documentation of Cultural Heritage, designed to delve deeper into the analysis and recording of documentary material applied to the study, diagnosis, and cataloging of heritage in this field. With the same structure, places, and credits as the previous program, it is aimed at students of Arts and Humanities and related degrees.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Manuel Garc\u00eda Fraga, Vice-Rector for Teaching, emphasized that the microdegrees are for students joining classrooms where these subjects are already taught, which is why the number of places offered is still limited, pending further developments to gauge demand. The price of the microdegrees corresponds to the public tuition fees for each subject.<\/p>\n

Modification of the degrees in Economics, Business and Tourism<\/strong><\/p>\n

The degree programs offered by the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism will undergo a significant overhaul to adapt to changing times, with content more closely aligned with the demands of today's job market. According to the Dean, Carmen In\u00e9s de la Rosa, who was present at the meeting, the aim is to create more flexible and internationally focused degree programs that incorporate new quantitative and analytical skills, as well as digital, ethical, and sustainability competencies.<\/p>\n

The center itself has been working throughout the academic year on an intensive proposal for change, which even includes specializations in the final year, with the possibility of\"\"<\/a> dual training in companies, and which also includes a Degree in Marketing.<\/p>\n

This proposal has been compiled into a needs assessment report which, following today's authorization by the Social Council, will be submitted to the regional government. The vice-rector explained that this request is a prerequisite for forwarding it to the relevant evaluation agency in Madrid, with the aim of implementing all these changes by the 2027\/28 academic year.<\/p>\n

The rector of the academic center, Francisco Garc\u00eda, added at the end of this debate that in the 27\/28 academic year, five new degrees are planned to be offered: Aerospace Engineering, Data Management, Biomedicine, Electrical Engineering and, already mentioned in this note, Marketing.<\/p>\n

In other news, V\u00edctor D\u00edaz's departure as interim secretary of the Social Council was announced, and Marta Quir\u00f3s will now fill his position. The plenary session thanked him for his service in this role.<\/p>\n
