The rector of the University of La Laguna, Francisco Garc\u00eda, and the representative of the Cepsa Foundation, Jes\u00fas Velasco, have signed a document this week renewing the agreement that governs the operation of the Chair of Ecological Transition and Innovation<\/a> which this entity promotes together with the academic center.<\/p>\n

The university chair is headed by Professor Elena Pastor, who notes that this year's action plan includes continuing to promote the role of women in science, supporting student conferences, and also supporting expressions of interest, which is a way to encourage the development of undergraduate and master's thesis projects led by emerging research talent within the academic institution. In fact, 22 projects were submitted in the last call for expressions of interest, of which six have been selected for further development.<\/p>\n

This entity also supports specific projects led by students from the University of La Laguna, such as Teidesat<\/a>, a nanosatellite created by a wide range of students from technical and scientific degrees and which has been led by this institution.<\/p>\n

The chair also supports another initiative called ULLRaid<\/a>, A national solidarity event involving engineering students on an expedition through the Moroccan desert to deliver aid to remote villages using a vehicle over twenty years old. Both projects involve highly motivated, innovative students with strong social values and deep commitment to their degrees\u2014qualities that perfectly align with the spirit of the chair.<\/p>\n

Another project championed by this chair, and in which it remains particularly active, is the 'maker space' located in the Higher School of Engineering and Technology, a classroom designed entirely by students where engineering projects of all kinds are carried out, with a clear interdisciplinary character, and which has been conceived as a multipurpose space with different functionalities.<\/p>\n

The university chair has also been supporting the best undergraduate and master's theses related to the ecological transition and the circular economy for years, while also acting as a conduit for potential R&D projects of interest to both the university and the company.<\/p>\n

Also present at the signing of the agreement were the director of the Secretariat of Institutional Chairs, Marta Dom\u00ednguez, and the head of the Cepsa Foundation in the Canary Islands, Bel\u00e9n Machado.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
