A total of 126 researchers from 24 countries around the world will meet from Monday, May 20th at the Mathematics Section of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of La Laguna to participate in the International Symposium on Combinatorial Optimization<\/a> (ISCO). This biennial event will begin, strictly speaking, on Wednesday the 22nd and will run until Friday the 24th, but the two days prior, as an introduction, a specialized workshop on combinatorial optimization will be held and machine learning<\/em>, led by Anitabh Basu (Johns Hopkins University) and Andrea Lodi (Cornell Tech and Technion).<\/p>\n

ISCO brings together researchers from all communities related to combinatorial optimization, including algorithms and complexity, mathematical programming, operations research, optimization under uncertainty, graph theory, and combinatorics. It aims to be a forum for presenting original research in these areas, and especially at their intersections. Thus, it welcomes papers on all aspects of combinatorial optimization, from mathematical foundations and algorithm theory to computational studies and practical applications.<\/p>\n

The symposium will be divided into twenty-minute presentation sessions held simultaneously in three classrooms in the Mathematics section. There will also be three plenary lectures that will be broadcast. via streaming<\/a>On the 22nd at 10:00, Claudia Archetti (ESSEC, France) will speak on \u201cLeveraging public transport for parcel delivery: The problem of cargo in transit\u201d; on the 23rd at 10:00, Francisco Barahona (IBM TJ Watson Research Center, United States) will speak on \u00bbNew algorithms to increase the weight of minimum spanning trees and network resilience\u00bb; and on the 24th, at the same time as the previous ones, Jon Lee (University of Michigan, United States) will speak on \u00bbEfficient and effective optimization methods for generalized dispersed investments\u00ab.<\/p>\n

This is the eighth edition of the symposium and the first to be held in Spain, hosted by the University of La Laguna. Previous editions took place in Tunisia, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Morocco, Canada, and France, although the last two were held entirely online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
