Following its first edition held in Madrid in 2022, sponsored by the Carlos III University, the second edition will take place on October 17 and 18 at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Trade Fair Center. The University of La Laguna, the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology of the Spanish National Research Council (IPNA-CSIC), and the Canary Islands Special Zone, with the newspaper El Español as a partner, are also involved in its organization. media partner.

This second edition of the congress was presented today, Friday, June 7, in the Blas Cabrera Felipe Auditorium of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of La Laguna, with the presence of the professor of Electrical Engineering of the Tenerife center Ernesto Pereda de Pablo; the director of IPNA-CSIC, Juan Ignacio Padrón; and the president of the organizing committee, the professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Chemical Engineering of the Carlos III University Alberto García-Peñas.

Pereda explained that the application period for submitting papers and registering as an attendee is now open, and he invited the Canary Islands scientific community to participate. Holding a congress of this nature in Tenerife presents a valuable opportunity, as it eliminates the need to travel outside the archipelago. Therefore, it could be an excellent forum for researchers from local universities and institutions such as the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC), the Technological and Renewable Energy Institute (ITRR), and the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC) to present their work. He also confirmed the participation of two prominent chemists from the University of La Laguna, David Díaz and Verónica Pino, as speakers.

García-Peñas explained that while businesses, universities, and government all clearly understand the need to implement a circular economy, this awareness has not yet taken root among the general public. Achieving this public engagement is precisely one of the objectives of this congress, and Tenerife was chosen as the venue because, in the researcher's opinion, there is greater social awareness in the Canary Islands regarding the challenges of sustainability, as its population is more accustomed to living with strategies that overcome the obstacles of insularity.

The researcher from Carlos III University of Madrid outlined the program for the congress, which will focus on the Sustainable Development Goals on October 17th, with parallel sessions for each goal where researchers can present their work. The 18th will be dedicated to plenary sessions, for which confirmed speakers include Leire Pajín, president of the Spanish Network for Sustainable Development (REDS), and Lourdes Vega, director of the Research and Innovation Center on CO2 and H2 in Abu Dhabi. Presentations will also be given by representatives from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and regional authorities.

For his part, the director of IPNA-CSIC recalled his organization's commitment to research linked to sustainability, and also highlighted the great opportunity that the CIRMAT 24 congress can represent to investigate issues related to sustainability in a forum that includes not only research personnel, but also other sectors of society.

CIRMAT 24 is a multidisciplinary congress focused on the ecological and energy transition and the circular economy to achieve…

[6,37,10
3911,3912,3913,535,3914,2134,3915,208,3916
post-8977","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-destacado","category-investigacion","category-portada-ull","tag-alberto-garcia-penas","tag-cirmat","tag-cirmat-24","tag-economia-circular","tag-ernesto-pereda-de-pablo","tag-ipna","tag-juan-ignacio-padron","tag-sostenibilidad","tag-universidad-carlos-iii

https://www.ull.es/portal/noticias/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/10/Present-CIRMAT24-03-300x200.jpg
["GET
