Italian artists in Chile between art, immigration and journalism (1906)
Abstract
The article focuses on the Italian artistic production in Chile, collected on the pages of the first work of the “Circolo degli Artisti” of Santiago, Gl'Italiani in Cile. Arti, Lettere, Scienze, published in 1906, on the occasion of the Milan International Exhibition of the same year. We will first analyse the stages that led to the formation of this "Circolo" on the pages of the ethnic newspaper La Voce della Colonia; in particular, we will dwell on the articles written by the director of the gazette, Annibale Visconti, in which the news of the International Exhibition is for the first time. Secondly, we will examine the content of the work that concerns us, showing the most representative works of the Italian community resident in Chile, in different areas, such as painting, photography, literature and sculpture.
