Crisis y renovación en el ciclo de vida de los destinos turísticos. El caso del Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife

Resumen

Este trabajo analiza las series históricas de turistas, plazas y pernoctaciones de Puerto de la Cruz, centrándose en el periodo 1980-2014. El marco de interpretación de la evolución de este destino parte del modelo del ciclo de vida de los destinos turísticos, incorporando algunos desarrollos teóricos más recientes, en particular la tesis de la reestructuración. Los resultados muestran la transición del destino entre dos modelos o regímenes de producción y consumo turísticos, el turismo masivo de sol y playa y el turismo cultural, a través de tres etapas diferenciadas.

The paper analyzes historical series of tourists, beds and overnights in Puerto de la Cruz (Canary Islands, Spain), focusing on the 1980-2014 years. The interpretation frame of the evolution path of this resort departs from the Tourism Area Life Cycle model and incorporates some recent theoretical developments, specially the restructuring thesis. The results show the resort’s transition between two models or regimes of tourism production and consumption (massive sea and sun tourism and cultural tourism) through three different stages.
