A qualitative exploratory-descriptive study was carried out, where six graduates who exercise the free practice of Nursing were interviewed with prior informed consent. The responses were categorized and the discourses analyzed from the theory of social representations. Know the social representation of Nursing in the free exercise of the profession. It was found that they define the free exercise of the profession as an economic, autonomous, independent and socially responsible activity. Economic and infrastructure issues were mentioned, as disadvantages in their practice, as well as few facilities to open a clinic and the search for care of the traditional medical model as justifications for the little insertion in this field.
2022-04-01T00:00:00+01:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://www.ull.es/revistas/index.php/cuidar/article/view/4257From Nursing student of the University of La Laguna torn, in COVID’s times. Due to the current health crisis, this transition may be even harder. Objectives: to carry out an exploratory descriptive study on the experiences during this stage in nurses graduated from the University of La Laguna between the years 2020 and 2021. Relevant results: we highlight that the participants point out that the transition from student to professional is hard on an emotional level and that constant support is needed during this stage. The current health crisis did not make them consider changing their profession. Conclusion: a phenomenological study is required to delve into the difficulties of adapting to work in this context of a pandemic.
2022-04-01T00:00:00+01:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://www.ull.es/revistas/index.php/cuidar/article/view/4258Importance of Benner’s Philosophy in training and employment of nurses in Canary Islands (Spain)2022-04-01T09:31:43+01:00Cristo Manuel Marrero Gonzálezrevistas@ull.es
The purpose of the present manuscript is a free and argued reflection on how Patricia Benner’s philosophy can support the training paradigm of nurses once they graduate from university and begin to join health institutions to work as nursing professionals. The foundation of Benner’s philosophy and the reflection on how much needs to be improved for specialized nursing training are addressed.
2022-04-01T00:00:00+01:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://www.ull.es/revistas/index.php/cuidar/article/view/4259Assessment of the interest expressed by nurses in having a nursing questionnaire assessing the ability to communicate among individuals with aphasia2022-04-01T09:59:49+01:00Willian Jesús Martín-Dortarevistas@ull.esPedro Ruymán Brito-Britorevistas@ull.esEstela Sainz-Fregelrevistas@ull.esElena Martín-Feliperevistas@ull.esRaquel Miranda-Martínrevistas@ull.esAlfonso Miguel García Hernándezrevistas@ull.es
Aphasia is the disorder of the processes involved in the formulation and interpreting language secondary to acquired brain damage. The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic has generated a scenario in which face-to-face contact with the patient has been replaced by remote care through telematics tools. The health experience in the use of video consultation is very diverse and highly topical. Knowing data whose scientific evidence is related to the improvement of user care favors valuing nursing as a link between the user and their health environment. Addressing the health problem in the virtual environment requires the acquisition of digital skills and knowledge of cybersecurity, notions related to informed consent addressed to the patient.
2022-04-01T00:00:00+01:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://www.ull.es/revistas/index.php/cuidar/article/view/4262Changes in people’s lives following a diagnosis of mental disorder: meaning and impact2022-04-01T10:26:20+01:00Eva Lourdes Díaz Hernándezrevistas@ull.es
Objective: To find out the meaning of the diagnosis of mental disorder and the impact on their lives, as well as to assess whether the presence of any illness is an indicator of unhappiness. Methodology: Qualitative phenomenological study, with convenience and intentional sampling, a focus group and 16 individual interviews, audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, coded and analysed in the N-vivo programme. Results: Physical and mental illness can produce unhappiness, although sometimes it is not a cause of unhappiness. This implies building new theoretical and practical foundations incorporating the gender perspective. Aim. To identify the perception that teaching staff and students have on the gender perspective in the Nursing Degree in the University of La Laguna. Methodology. Educational intervention project that includes an observational, cross-sectional study accompanied by a pilot/intervention experience where the interests and opinion of teaching staff and students in incorporating the gender perspective in the teaching curriculum are explored. Results. The students and teachers surveyed reported that this subject should be integrated into the Nursing training programme. Conclusions. Results show a general agreement in the introdution of a module on ‘Gender and Health’ in the Nursing Degree programme in the University of La Laguna. Module content should incorporate the gender perspective in each of the health dimensions, as well as in Development of new protocols, educational programmes and in the design of research projects.
2022-04-01T00:00:00+01:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://www.ull.es/revistas/index.php/cuidar/article/view/4265¡ I have run out of insulin needles!2022-04-01T11:19:11+01:00Alberto Salmonte Rodríguezrevistas@ull.esArantxa Vázquez Rodríguezrevistas@ull.esAndrés Ramos Hernándezrevistas@ull.esNuria González Báezrevistas@ull.es
The patients with diabetes need from a self-management of their disease more exhaustive to avoid descompensation and relapses of their chronic disease. The primary care nurse has a privileged position to improve the quality of life of those people, who even based on an environment of trust, can achieve healthy lifestyles in the patient. Mr. J.J. is a 61-year-old polypharmaceutical and polypathological patient who, after two previous amputations of two left lower limbs, presents a poorly perforating plantar ulcer at the base of the fifth metatarsal of said foot. After having dealt with this situation, a new amputation has inevitably taken place, which has caused a conflict of decisions. Thanks to the novelties in the use of tools for nursing assessment, a care plan was carried out applying a standardized language through the NANDA-I, NOC and NIC taxonomy, with evidence-based intervention.
2022-04-01T00:00:00+01:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://www.ull.es/revistas/index.php/cuidar/article/view/4268About a case: “looking through the wounds”2022-04-01T11:45:38+01:00Alba Rocío Siverio Díazrevistas@ull.esSamia Bellahmar Lkadirirevistas@ull.esAna María Rodríguez Pirianorevistas@ull.es
People with chronic diseases that lead to a situation of dependency should be assessed with a more exhaustive follow-up, because they are more vulnerable to comorbidities and complications. Dependence-Related Lesions (DRA), previously included under the name of pressure ulcers (PU), are a very prevalent problem in people with reduced mobility. In 2014, the National Group for the Study and Advice on Pressure Ulcers and Chronic Wounds (GNEAUPP) developed a Middle-Range Theory (MRT) for the analysis and approach of these lesions, emphasizing the etiology for good treatment. The MRT was published with the title A New Theoretical Model for the Development of PressureUlcers and Other Dependence- Related Lesions and has been used in the approach to the clinical case presented.
2022-04-01T00:00:00+01:00##submission.copyrightStatement##
