Canary Island microalgae and cyanobacteria as a source of high value-added natural substances<\/h1>This project will integrate three elements of current global interest: the industrial use of microalgae, the production of high-value-added natural substances, and the potential discovery of new bioactive substances. The research focuses on the specific study of microalgae, including cyanobacteria, as resources for obtaining antibacterial, antifungal, and other components with potential applications in the biotechnology industry and in improving agriculture. In this context, the research will be directed toward the study of marine and freshwater species from the Canary Islands, whose cultivation is viable. These species are prolific producers of secondary metabolites and are considered a promising area of research. Associated with this approach, the project aims to produce high-value-added substances and to prospect for new bioactive substances present in the primary biomass and in the products resulting from its processing. The aim is to achieve maximum value in the entire production process, from cultivation, maximizing yields and reducing costs, to processing, diversifying production.
