The Environmental Service of the University of La Laguna was created in 1989 as part of the University's outreach to society. In addition to teaching and research, its functions include providing scientific and technical support for social and economic development, both in the Canary Islands and at the national level. Within this framework, SEMALL is an analytical laboratory focused on verifying, monitoring, surveillance, and inspection of pollution from urban and industrial sources.
