Our Department offers undergraduate programs for students seeking a high quality education in English studies, as well as for more than 5,000 students in various university centers, such as the School of Education, the Business and Tourism School, the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Journalism School and the School of Architecture. The curriculum in English studies includes areas of study in language, linguistics, literature and culture. The curriculum emphasizes the development of analytical thinking, practical skills in specialized fields like English language history, grammar and syntax, English and American literatures, cultural studies, monographic courses on Chicano and Canadian literatures, phonetics and phonology, accents and dialects of English or translation studies and English-Spanish comparative courses. Our graduate studies program provides individual, interdisciplinary programs of study designed by the student with a faculty adviser. Programs allow for considerable flexibility in scheduling.
