Message from the PRESIDENT OF COF SCTFE

The Canary Islands Chair of Pharmacy of the Official College of Pharmacists at the University of La Laguna was created to delve deeper into the rigorous research that we wish to promote around patient-centered pharmacy, collaborating with a transdisciplinary team, and to transfer the knowledge generated that clearly benefits the society we serve.

Regulated scientific research, such as industrial doctoral studies, and new training methods in different fields of knowledge, allow a high degree of flexibility, making possible a doctoral training model based in the university, but with the collaboration of other organizations, entities and companies.

This balanced collaboration should facilitate a fruitful symbiosis between society, professionals, and universities for pharmacists, whose professional practice is focused on the patient.

SCTFE COF Assistance Pharmacy

Cof Tenerife

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the Official College of Pharmacists of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (COF SCTFE) was created to address the societal need to promote the rational use of medications and to ensure the development of the pharmacy profession with a more patient-centered approach. It began its work in 2014 but was officially established within the COF SCTFE in 2017.

Our patient-centered model applies not only to those who are ill but also to those who are healthy, with the aim of controlling risk factors and promoting disease prevention. It involves working with the patient and sharing information among professionals to streamline the patient's transition between healthcare settings.

COF SCTFE

The COF SCTFE, a national pioneer in the creation of this department, works to provide the necessary resources and tools so that pharmacies can offer high-quality professional services to patients. These services are primarily aimed at improving quality of life, preventing disease, and achieving better health outcomes.

One of the department's main objectives is to guarantee registered pharmacists continuous and adequate training in accordance with current social demands.

In turn, the department is geared towards:

  • To promote the representation of the community pharmacy pharmacist and their contribution to public health through the provision of services.
Encourage individual pharmacists to adopt this concept in their professional practice.
  • Encourage individual pharmacists to adopt this concept in their professional practice.
  • Promoting interaction with other healthcare professions for the development of services. This involves collaboration among healthcare professionals regarding medication reconciliation and contributing to the rational use of medicines through shared initiatives.
  • Facilitating health education for the population to optimize health outcomes for the patient.

From the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, we promote training, information, and research, motivating registered pharmacists to participate in new projects that allow the implementation and development of new professional services where the patient is the main protagonist.
