Congress of Students of the Faculty of Chemistry

  • Number of hours: 80
  • Description:
    • Description: The Student Conference of the Faculty of Chemistry is an annual event whose objectives are: to develop transversal skills, facilitate the teaching-learning process, foster interest in research, and introduce students to the professional environment of their degree. It is aimed at all students from the faculties of scientific disciplines (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, and Pharmacy). The conference is intended for doctoral students to present their research achievements. It also serves as training for public presentations and to interest undergraduate students in scientific research. The conference is held in April and lasts two and a half days, making it suitable for full- and part-time students. Poster presentations alternate with lectures and oral communications.
    • Competencies: Competencies CB11-CB16, CA01-CA06 are worked on, according to the list of competencies in the degree.
    • Nature: Mandatory during the first and second year of the doctoral period.
  • Review procedure: Doctoral students register and submit a summary of their work to be presented, which must be approved by their supervisor or tutor, within the deadline established by the organizers. The work is reviewed and accepted by the conference's scientific committee, which assigns a poster or oral presentation. On the scheduled date, they defend their research work within the established timeframe and format. The thesis supervisor/tutor must complete a rubric or evaluation matrix that explicitly expresses the competencies associated with these training activities, namely CB11-CB16 and CA01-CA06, specified in section 2 of the Application Form. Attendance is recorded by signatures of all attendees. If registered participants present their paper and attend the papers and conferences, they will receive a certificate of attendance and/or presentation of the paper (as applicable). The abstract of the presentation, a copy of the certificate of participation in the Conference, and the assessment rubric completed by the Thesis Supervisor, which includes the level of acquisition of competencies CB11-CB16 and CA01-CA06, will be submitted annually to the Doctoral Academic Committee for inclusion in the activity report. This activity will be encouraged by the Doctoral School.

Antonio Gonzalez Scientific Week

The general objectives are: to alleviate the remoteness effect and the idea of isolation inherent to the geographical location of our Islands, to promote scientific cooperation, to encourage the search for and establishment of industry-university relations, to bring the various research trends in the field of Organic Chemistry and related fields closer to faculty and students, as well as to awaken research vocations. Students have the opportunity to present their research work to a highly qualified audience, which greatly motivates them in their work. The event is held over four days in October and is open to full-time or part-time students. Information regarding the event can be found at the following address. web

    • The objective of this activity is to familiarize students with the use of electronic resources and access to information in digital format, especially the electronic books and journals available at the ULL. Students will also learn how to use bibliographic managers in their research and teaching work, especially the Refworks software, which has been acquired by the ULL. Basic concepts will also be provided.
about other products such as Zotero and Mendeley. These courses are offered and supervised by the University Library staff and are taught at three levels: undergraduate, master's, and doctoral. The one listed here corresponds to the doctoral level. This activity is available to part-time and full-time students.
    • Competencies: The following competencies are worked on: CB11, CB13, CA01, CA05, according to the list of competencies in the title.

Internships at other research centers (mobility)

  • Number of hours: 480
  • Description:
    • Description: All parties involved in the training of doctoral students agree on the benefits of undertaking stays at other centers, which can also lead to obtaining the European or International Mention for the Doctoral Thesis and the Doctoral Degree. For this reason, the ULL contemplates and establishes a grant program for undertaking stays at other centers associated with the development of the doctoral thesis, and the doctoral school encourages students to do so. This is an annual call for applications, the regulatory bases of which can be found at the following address. web
The purpose of the stay varies, but in general, the aim is for students to obtain training in experimental techniques complementary to their studies or in characterizations that are not possible at the original center. The procedure that regulates how to complete the procedures related to the application for the ULL International Mention can be found at here The student is required to complete this activity for 480 hours, which corresponds to a three-month stay at a foreign research center. This duration is established because grants for stays are generally awarded for a maximum of three months per year of the thesis. This time is sufficient to achieve the international recognition for the degree. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for these grants.
    • Competencies: Competencies CB11-CB16, CA02-CA06 are worked on, according to the list of competencies in the title.
    • Nature: Optional, during the second or third year of the doctoral program.
    • Language: English
  • Control procedure: The grant is awarded on a competitive basis, so a report must be prepared detailing the activity to be carried out. Upon completion, a report signed by a researcher in charge of the recipient center must be submitted. This report is then reviewed by a scientific committee at the original center, ensuring oversight of the activity.
  • Mobility Programs: Internship grants generally last a maximum of three months per year of the thesis. This is sufficient time to achieve the international recognition for the degree. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for these grants.
