Training activities

  • Number of hours: 80
  • Description:
    • Description: The Faculty of Chemistry's student congress is an annual activity that aims to develop transversal competences, promote the teaching-learning process, promote interest in research and bring students closer to the professional environment of their degree. It is aimed at all students of the faculties of scientific disciplines (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Pharmacy), and it is intended that doctoral students present the achievements of their research with the additional objective of serving as training for public presentations as well as to interest undergraduate students in Scientific Research. The congress is held in April and lasts two and a half days, making it an activity compatible with full-time and part-time students. Poster presentations alternate with lectures and oral communications.
    • Competencies: Competencies CB11-CB16, CA01-CA06 are worked on, according to the list of competencies in the title.
    • Character: Mandatory during the first and second year of the doctoral program.
  • Control procedure: PhD students register and send a summary of the work to be presented, which must have been approved by their director or tutor, within the deadline set by the organization. The work is reviewed and accepted by the scientific committee of the conference, which assigns them a poster or oral presentation. On the appointed date, they defend their research work within the established time and format. The director/tutor of the Thesis must complete a rubric or evaluation matrix that explicitly expresses the competencies associated with these training activities, namely, CB11-CB16 and CA01-CA06 specified in section 2 of the Application Report. Attendance is noted by signatures of all attendees. If those registered present their communication and if they attend the communications and conferences, they are given a certificate of attendance at the conference and/or communication presentation (as appropriate). The summary of the communication, the copy of the certificate of participation in the Congress, together with the evaluation rubric completed by the Thesis Director, which includes the level of acquisition of the CB11-CB16 and CA01-CA06 competencies, will be delivered annually to the Academic Committee of Doctoral Studies for incorporation into the activities document. The realization of this activity will be promoted by the Doctoral School.

  • Description:
    • Description: This is an annual activity with the character of a National Congress in which lectures by prestigious researchers from Spanish research centres alternate with presentations in the form of short communications and posters. The general objectives are: to alleviate the effect of distance and the idea of isolation inherent to the geographical situation of our Islands, to promote scientific cooperation, to encourage the search for and establishment of Industry-University relations, to bring the different research trends in the field of Organic Chemistry and related fields closer to teachers and students, as well as to awaken research vocations. Students have the opportunity to present their research work in front of a highly qualified audience, which serves as a great motivation for their work. The event is held over 4 days in the month of October and is valid for full-time or part-time students. Information regarding the event can be found at the following address: web

  • Mobility activities: This activity does not involve mobility.
  • Number of hours: 30
  • Description:
    • The objective of this activity is to familiarize the student with the use of electronic resources and with access to information in digital format, especially in accessing electronic books and journals available at the ULL. In addition, students will also learn how to use bibliographic managers in their research and teaching work, and especially the Refworks software, which is acquired by the ULL. In addition, some basic notions will be offered.
about other products such as Zotero and Mendeley. These courses are offered and controlled by the University Library staff, and are taught at three levels: undergraduate, master's and doctoral. The course included here corresponds to the doctoral level. This is an activity available to part-time and full-time students.
    • Competencies: The following competencies are worked on: CB11, CB13, CA01, CA05, according to the list of competencies in the title.
    • Character: Mandatory during the first year of the doctoral program.
    • Language: English
  • Control procedure: An admission and registration process is carried out according to the usual and established rules, enrolled students are registered, attendance is monitored (mandatory for face-to-face sessions) and the completion of face-to-face and virtual activities. All courses have their own control and evaluation system that assesses the use of this activity reflected in the course report and are taught by ULL library staff.
  • Mobility activities: This activity does not involve mobility.
  • Number of hours: 480
  • Description:
    • Description: All parties involved in the training of doctoral students agree on the benefits of doing stays in other centres that can also allow obtaining the European or International Mention of the Doctoral Thesis and the Doctorate Degree. For this reason, the ULL contemplates and establishes a programme of aid for doing stays in other centres associated with the development of the doctoral thesis and the doctoral school encourages students to do them. This is an annual call for applications whose regulatory bases can be found at the following address: web
The objective of the stay varies, but in general the aim is for students to obtain training in experimental techniques that complement their studies or characterizations that are not possible at the original center. The procedure that regulates how to carry out the procedures related to the application for the ULL International Mention can be found here here The student is required to work on this activity for 480 hours, which corresponds to a three-month stay at a foreign research centre. This duration is established because grants for stays are generally awarded for a maximum of three months per year of the thesis. This time is sufficient to achieve the objective of obtaining the international mention for the degree. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for these grants.
    • Competencies: Competencies CB11-CB16, CA02-CA06 are worked on, according to the list of competencies in the title.
    • Nature: Optional, during the second or third year of the doctoral program.
    • Language: English
  • Control procedure: The granting of the aid is of a competitive nature, so a report must be prepared in which the activity to be carried out is recorded and, upon completion, a report signed by a responsible researcher from the receiving centre must be provided, which in turn is reviewed by a scientific committee at the original centre, guaranteeing control of the activity.
  • Mobility grants: Grants for stays generally have a maximum duration of three months per year of the thesis. This time is sufficient to achieve the objective of obtaining the international mention for the degree. Both full-time and part-time students can apply for these grants.
  • Number of hours: 10
  • Description:
    • Description: The workshop will focus on theory and practice, so that once the fundamental elements to be taken into account when writing articles have been analyzed, we will use the writings of the participants themselves as an element of self-review in this regard. The course will focus on work on publications in relation to the area of experimental sciences and the phases to be taken into account when writing them. The publication of articles requires a strategy that is very different in the various scientific areas, so the course aims to delve deeper into the field of experimental science.
    • Goals:
      • Know the fundamental elements of a scientific article.
      • Establish the phases in your writing. Review scientific articles and know how to break down their parts. Review documentary references and their citation traditions in the area of experimental sciences.
      • Be aware of the steps and mechanisms for publishing articles.
      • To obtain information on the status and ranking of scientific journals in the field of experimental sciences.
