The family therapy paradigm is a scientific approach that has been developing for over 60 years in the fields of psychology, psychiatry, social work, and education. It offers a relational perspective in diverse intervention contexts, whether clinical, educational, or social. The term "family therapy" was coined to designate the therapeutic modality that works with the family as the unit of treatment, focusing the intervention on relationships and context, and not exclusively on treating the individual affected by a disorder or exhibiting dysfunction—what we have traditionally called the Identified Patient. In Spain, this training has been offered for over 30 years in non-university educational settings. Currently, the Spanish Federation of Family Therapy Associations is the body that accredits this training, leaving university students, with few exceptions, without access to this experience. In the 2026-2027 academic year, the ULL will offer the 3rd edition of the 'Expert in Family Therapy. Basic Course'.
