Access and admission

Admission and scale

Admission

Students who meet the admission requirements established in the previous section may apply for admission to the Inter-University Master's Degree in Port and Coastal Engineering. Due to limited enrollment, admission will be subject to a selection process based on an evaluation of candidates' merits. This evaluation will adhere to the criteria outlined in the following section. After reviewing the documentation submitted by the applicant, the Academic Committee of the Master's Degree will conduct a preliminary selection and issue a list of pre-admitted students, based on the number of available places. Subsequently, the Academic Committee will grant final admission if the necessary administrative requirements for enrollment are met.

Selection criteria

The Master's Degree in Continuing Education in Port and Coastal Engineering is aimed especially at Engineers whose responsibilities include the specialty of Maritime Engineering: Master Engineers of Roads, Canals and Ports, Graduates in Civil Engineering, Technical Engineers of Public Works or equivalent foreign qualifications.

It is also open to other Spanish or foreign engineering degrees that can prove they have basic prior training related to: the sea, maritime and coastal engineering, marine energies or the essential subjects included in the Master's program, as well as graduates in Marine Sciences or equivalent foreign qualifications, provided they meet one of the above requirements.

Although the Master's Degree in Port and Coastal Engineering provides in-depth and specialized training, it does not grant professional qualifications, so anyone wishing to practice their profession in Port and Coastal Engineering must acquire/have acquired them with one of the degrees that enable it, such as the Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Canals and Ports or the former studies of Technical Engineering of Public Works.

Admission to the program leading to this postgraduate degree will be subject to a selection process based on the evaluation of the candidate's merits. As this is a highly specialized Master's program, students must have, or have previously acquired, a background in Maritime and Coastal Engineering at least at the level of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Therefore, the preferred qualifications and studies are:

  • Civil Engineering.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Technical Engineering of Public Works.

Those who can prove they hold a recognized foreign higher education degree or one equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish undergraduate degree will also have access to studies leading to postgraduate degrees from the University of La Laguna. For this purpose, recognition of said degree is not required, but prior verification that it qualifies for access to postgraduate studies in the country where it was issued. However, the relevant rectoral authorization will be required for enrollment, subject to a report from the Postgraduate Studies Committee.
