The objective of this degree is the critical and rigorous study of the Spanish language and its literature, emphasizing the linguistic variation of the Latin American countries and the richness of their literature. It aims to train students in the reception and interpretation of oral and written literary and non-literary texts and in their understanding of the nature and history of the Spanish language. The study of Spanish language and literature develops an open, flexible, and responsible attitude, the capacity for solid argumentation, and the ability to establish a dialogue with present and past values and cultures.
The Bachelor's degree in Spanish: Language and Literature is recommended for students who demonstrate a strong interest in learning subjects related to the core areas of Spanish language, linguistics, Spanish and Latin American literature, literary theory, classical and modern languages, as well as other interdisciplinary studies related to the arts and humanities.
It is also recommended to have adequate oral and written expression skills, as well as a desire to acquire skills such as oral and written expression, critical thinking, autonomy, and initiative, among others. Students who have chosen the Social Sciences and Humanities track for post-secondary education are best suited to these studies.
What can these graduates do? It's important to note that there is a growing need for specialists in Spanish language and culture to provide advice to all types of professionals and entities, both public and private, especially those related to media and cultural management.
Graduates in Spanish: Language and Literature are well-equipped to find employment in the fields of teaching Spanish language and literature and complementary training in the humanities (for foreigners, immigrants, continuing education, and adults); supporting specialized work in Spanish language and literature; providing expert advice in Spanish language (media, public relations, business, and administration); research; cultural and documentary management (cooperation and development, international relations, and intercultural studies); publishing management (literary production, linguistic advice, editorial work, and literary criticism); the publishing industry; linguistic and intercultural mediation; and more.
