The IUNE has the MISSION to promote and conduct top-level cognitive, social, clinical and educational research, offering scientific infrastructures to foster cutting-edge advances in neuroscience, developing translational research of excellence and internationalization.
Our AIM It is to contribute to the well-being of society through the application of knowledge and technology derived from research.
The STRATEGY It is to strengthen the synergies between basic and applied research to promote cutting-edge research in cognitive neuroscience by designing new avenues of intervention in the fields of health, education and the improvement of society.
History
The IUNE emerged from the structuring project NEUROCOG, funded in 2010 by the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI), the European Union, and the ULL Campus of Excellence, through a competitive call aimed at identifying and developing major lines of scientific research in the Canary Islands. NEUROCOG led to the implementation of competitive R&D projects on cognitive neuroscience and its applications to education and health.
The foundations were laid for scientific collaborations between leading research groups and the so-called "Neurocog Colloquia," which programmed regular lectures and seminars led by prominent local and international researchers as a multidisciplinary meeting point. This initial impetus provided fertile ground for consolidating a multidisciplinary group of excellent researchers in Psychology, Education, Health, Physiology, and Engineering, with the common goal of becoming a leading institute in Cognitive Neuroscience and having a translational impact in the clinical, educational, and technological fields to improve the well-being of society.
