Monday 15 de December de 2025 - 11:41 CET

Last week, the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism of the University of La Laguna hosted the meeting 'Hybridizing experiences with the SDGs', a day that brought together students from the degrees of Pedagogy, Social and Cultural Anthropology and the Double Degree in Sociology and Anthropology.

The initiative is part of an Educational Innovation and Transfer Project (PITE), driven by a teaching team committed to methodological renewal and sustainability. The meeting aimed to share results and reflections arising in the classroom from the application of active learning methodologies, especially the combination of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Discovery Learning. Through this, the teachers sought to strengthen teacher-student interaction, promote the inclusion of a gender perspective, and foster the cross-cutting integration of the Sustainable Development Goals into educational programs from a critical perspective situated within the local context.

The project has been implemented in five university courses, one of which has three different groups, encompassing diverse educational stages and academic backgrounds. This diversity has allowed for the comparison of experiences and enriched the conclusions regarding the challenges of innovation in diverse learning environments. Each course has followed a common plan with structural teaching and learning activities, combined with adaptations created by the teaching teams throughout the process.

During this meeting, students presented a wide variety of projects reflecting diverse perspectives on the SDGs and their implementation in different geographical, social, and educational contexts. Among the projects presented, those by students from the Ethnology I: Africa and America course, part of the Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology and the Double Degree in Sociology and Anthropology, stood out. These projects addressed issues such as the decolonization of Western Sahara and the status of the SDGs in Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Venezuela, and Belize.

For their part, the students of the Degree in Pedagogy, from the subject Integration Activities, presented research focused on problems that occur in the Canary Islands environment, including school absenteeism, the prevention of early dropout, the impact of consumption and technologies on the SDGs, or gender inequalities in traditionally male-dominated professions.

In addition, topics such as bullying, gender violence, racial discrimination, the well-being of the elderly, sustainability related to companion animals, and the role of tourism and local markets as drivers of sustainable development were explored. Finally, noteworthy sections included thematic blocks dedicated to the impact of migration and the climate crisis, as well as health and sport among university students.

Overall, the event “Hybridizing Experiences with the SDGs” established itself as a space for critical reflection and collaborative learning, where academia and social commitment converged to contribute to building a fairer, more equitable, and sustainable future.
