New contribution to the clay sculpture catalog of «La Roldana»: The Virgin of Bethlehem

Abstract

We have made an analysis about a new masterpiece of La Roldana discovered in Córdoba. This little sculpture represent the catholic symbol of Nuestra Señora de Belén, a religious picture venerated in the catholic community with the same name situated in the montains of Córdoba. We can include this piece into the mud catalogue made during her life. In this case, Luisa Roldán reimagine the original icon and transfer it into the third dimensión. This work try to find physical similarities between the new masterpiece and her mud works with the only aim of assuring that we are in front of a new virgin made by the sevillan artist.Keywords: clay sculpture, Luis Roldán, Sevillan sculpture school, art discovery.
