Abstract
The essay includes some considerations on the theory of the proportions of the human body which appears in the philosophical and religious encyclopaedia of the Brothers of purity, an Arabic brotherhood founded in Basora between the 9th and 10th centuries A.D, with special emphasis on some ideas on the possible relationship between this system of proportion and artistic practice representing the human figure.
