Transference and Transparency of Artistic Images
Abstract
The artistic image poses a basic contradiction between its body, its configuration as an image, the materiality or immateriality that characterises it in each case and which translates into a certain presence, on one hand, and, on the other, its withdrawal, the transparency which comes of its position as a mechanism for mediation that transports the spectator to a realm of senses. The position of images in art is that of resisting becoming trapped by their own morphological characteristics, in open confrontation with society’s conception which seeks to affirm itself through them.
