Apiano, BC, 4, 32: Octavia como exemplum del papel de la mujer en la propaganda política del Segundo Triunvirato (44-30 a.C)
Abstract
In this paper, through a detailed analysis of Appian (BC, 4,32) one of the texts which experts in the political history of the Second Triumvirate have most neglected, we would like to demonstrate the key political role played by Octavia, sister to Octavian and future emperor Augustus. Our purpose throughout the period analyzed is to demonstrate that Octavia´s image was built in constant comparison with that of the Egyptian queen Cleopatra. Furthermore, that Octavia was not only a pawn but a great matrona and her own decisitionmaker in the complex panorama of high Roman politics during the Late Republic.
