Abstract
The work of the Canarian poet Pedro Álvarez de Lugo y Usodemar (Santa Cruz de la Palma, 1628-1706), Convalecencia del alma, presents, in a moralistic tone, a complex world of authorial references of all kinds. Among these, classical authors are specially relevant. This paper addresses the issue of these gentile writers and the reception of their works in the 17th century.
