Satirical use and abuse of the classical tradition in the Carajicomedia
Abstract
Within the Cancionero de obras de burlas provocantes a risa (Valencia, 1519), literary tradition has included the version of a unique, attractive and essentially parodic poem by means of a lewd causticity unparalleled in Spanish literature: the Carajicomedia, an outstanding work that subjects the socio-political reality, the mores, the canons of serious literature and the legacy of the Greco-Roman tradition to critical appraisal. To accompany this account, we present an inventory of passages that shed light on the above reality, stressing the intentional regard -and disregard- with which the author of the Carajicomedia treats classical themes.
