The Characters in Petronius’ Satyricon. Physical Characteristics and Personality

Abstract

The present study, about the characters in Petronius’ Satyricon, has been carried out taking into account two aspects: physical appearance and personality. Physical appearance reveals some functionally significant data that the author emphasized, in order to make sense of some specific actions. Personality reveals a picture of characters, representatives of groups of individuals, typical in the Julio-Claudian era, to which Petronius turned his attention.
