Le retour à la raison, a Dada film paradigm. A presentation of Man Ray’s conceptual aesthetics

Abstract

Man Ray’s cinematographic production is the creative vortex where the mechanisms and techniques that he handled during his career converge, and which suppose his conceptual maturity. Because of his nuclear character, not only do the elements that formed his aesthetic concept influence in his filmography,  but also the traces of biographic events that decided his evolution, key facts in the technical, cultural and ideological context, in which he got along. In addition, some of his works and objects find their culmination in their manifestation projected on the screen. In this article, his first cinematographic production is analyzed from this integral perspective.
