Abstract

In Susana, a conventional argument, Luis Buñuel found the opportunity to experiment all the possibilities of the melodrama. This genre, so related with the human emotions, had always been interesting for to him from both the theoretical and practical point of view. Making this film, Buñuel took the genre to the extreme, to the absurd, with a richer and more critical view of the reality and, at the same time, subverting the characteristical formulas of this genre and also of the «comedia ranchera», renovating their possibilities.
