Shade sails for students in the Central Campus Plaza

AMOUNT: 42586€

The Central Campus plaza near Avenida de la Trinidad is an open space nestled between several buildings on the Central Campus (Professor Agustín Arévalo Tower, the former Scholarship Office building, and the side of the main building). It is a popular area for students, as it features picnic tables and a calisthenics park, inviting them to gather there to eat or relax outdoors, especially when the weather is nice. However, on intensely hot days, the plaza becomes uninviting due to the relentless sun and the limited shade provided by the four palm trees. Due to climate change, heat waves have become more frequent and intense. Furthermore, sun exposure and the effects of UVA rays cause severe skin problems, increasing the risk of skin cancer, particularly in the Canary Islands. Therefore, the proposal involves installing tensioned, seagull-shaped sails with UVA-resistant treatment in this recreational area. Therefore, the proposal consists of installing in this recreational area some tensioned sails, of the seagull type with anti-UVA ray treatment.
