The pergola: an open-air space for meeting and relaxing

The aim is to repurpose a disused space to create a pleasant (yet sufficiently sheltered) outdoor area where people can take a break from their daily activities. A place to clear their minds, chat, have a snack, or even enjoy a packed lunch. Starting with a pre-existing space—the patio adjacent to the cafeteria of the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism building—the proposal is to install a large covered pergola to provide shelter from the sun and rain. This structure would also help to dampen any noise generated, thus preventing disturbances to offices located on the upper floors. The existing space has access (currently closed) from inside the building and includes some stone benches.
