Library

The The Physics and Mathematics Sections Library is one of the 15 units that make up the Library of the University of La Laguna and groups together the collections of both faculties.

Its facilities, with a usable area of 690 meters, occupy the right wing on the second floor of the white building, and consist of:

  • Reading room, with 127 seats, which also houses monographs and recent issues of periodicals.
  • Hall, where the computers for electronic catalog consultation and internet access are located, and the counter for managing external loans.
  • Videoconference room, with 16 seats.
  • Four work offices (carrels).
  • Periodicals storage facility.

You can access more information in this link.

Blas Cabrera Auditorium and Graduation Hall

The Blas Cabrera Auditorium at the Faculty of Sciences is located on the 1st floor of the White Building and has a capacity of 248 people. It is equipped with the necessary audiovisual equipment for conferences, faculty meetings, etc. Further information can be found at the following link. Regulations for the use and reservation of the Aula Magna. To request the Aula Magna, the following form must be completed. Reservation document and submit it to the Faculty Secretariat

Likewise, there is a Graduation Hall located on the 5th Floor of the White Building with a capacity for 25 people.

Practical Laboratory

Experimental teaching has received preferential attention since the inception of Physics studies at the University of La Laguna (ULL). All courses with an experimental component have corresponding laboratories equipped with the necessary capacity and resources for optimal learning. Several physics laboratories are available with appropriate instrumentation for practical courses in experimental techniques, covering mechanics, electrostatics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, optics, quantum physics, and electronics. There are also specialized laboratories for Optical Spectroscopy, Optical and Laser Spectroscopy, Low Frequency, Nanomaterials, and Optics, as well as the Physics Department's Synthesis Laboratory for the more advanced experimental courses in the degree program. These are located in the two buildings that comprise the Section (the Physics-Mathematics building and the "Calabaja" building). The resources of the Astrophysics Student Computing Center and the Teide Observatory are also available for practical exercises related to Astrophysics.

Café

The cafeteria is located on the ground floor of the white building. It is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the academic year, with reduced hours during school holidays. In addition to coffee, pastries, and sandwiches, a set lunch menu is served between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The price of the set lunch menu is set by the University of La Laguna.

The ULL Student Support Services provide a system of assistance to students in the form of discounts applicable to meals in the ULL dining halls. These discounts are called meal vouchers.

Services

Research fellows – practical class monitors

In the teaching context of the new degree programs, the support provided by research fellows associated with projects in their third or fourth year of fellowship, who possess practical teaching skills and are always supervised by a professor, is of particular importance. The Department has approximately 12 research fellows. They will be of great help both in lectures and small groups, as well as in practical classes.

Computer lab interns

It is of enormous importance to have the IT support of the Computer Lab Interns who allow us to address classroom incidents at all times during opening hours (from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.).

Astrophysics Fellows

The Astrophysics Department has interns who help in the preparation of the necessary elements, in the telescopes and in the computing center, for practical teaching.

Administrative and service staff
In addition to the support staff mentioned above, the Faculty has the collaboration of the center's administrative and service staff, the library and the departments where the professors involved in teaching are located, as well as the support technicians in the laboratories of the different departments.

The Physics Section has the following staff:

  • Concierge: one concierge and two service assistants.

The Departments have an Administrative Assistant to help with management tasks and staff of different categories who collaborate in teaching and research work mainly in the laboratories.

The administrative and service staff of the various units receive ample training, resulting in higher quality service. The development of the Administrative Procedures Manual for Centers, approved by the Governing Council of the University of La Laguna (ULL) on May 27, 2005, represents a significant step forward in streamlining procedures and standardizing forms, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of services.

The Library, in its Physics and Mathematics section, has eight administrative and service staff members, of whom four work the morning shift and four the afternoon shift, in order to keep the library open throughout the day.

The University also has a centralized maintenance service per campus, with the plumbing and electrical services based in the main building of the Section.
