Functions of the Faculty Board

The Faculty Board is the highest representative body of the members of the Faculty, with its own powers in matters of organization, coordination, and management. It is composed of representatives from the faculty, students, and administrative and service staff of the Faculty of Sciences. Its composition is renewed in the first few months of each academic year. Its functions include:

  • To define, approve and coordinate the Faculty's policy of action, both in terms of teaching and research, as well as in terms of its administrative and economic regime
  • Prepare and approve the Draft Internal Regulations of the Faculty and its amendments.
  • To approve the teaching organization plans of the Faculty and to propose and report the modification of its study plans.
  • Approve the distribution of funds allocated to the Faculty charged to the University Budgets.

  • To perform any other functions assigned to him by the higher governing bodies of the university or recognized by the current regulations.
  • And, in general, to perform the other functions provided for collegiate bodies in article 139 of the University Statutes.

According to the Internal Regulations of the Faculty of Sciences, it is established that:

  • In order to ensure a more agile and efficient operation of the Faculty of Sciences, the Sections of Biology, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry are established.
  • Each Section will have autonomy to organize its internal operating regime, guided by the principles emanating from this Regulation and without prejudice to the powers in matters of control contemplated in this Regulation and attributed to the Faculty Board.
  • Each of the aforementioned sections will have a Board that will be chaired by the Dean, who may delegate the chair to one of the people who holds one of the vice-deanships.
  • The Secretary of each Section Board will be the person who holds the position of Secretary of the Faculty, or the person designated by the Dean, who must be a member of the Faculty Board and meet the same requirements as the former.
  • The Faculty Board delegates to the Section Boards the powers that refer exclusively to matters of interest to the respective Sections.
  • Each Section Board is responsible for the knowledge and resolution of any other matter that the Faculty Board expressly delegates to it, with the exceptions set out in this regulation in article 19.4 and in the Statutes of the University of La Laguna and current legislation.

The Faculty of Science Boards will be informed of the agreements adopted by the Section Boards held previously.

The Plenary may revoke the delegation made at any time, recovering the exercise of the delegated powers.

OTHER COMMITTEES OF THE FACULTY OF SCIENCES

As established in Article 19, Chapter 2 of the Internal Regulations of the Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty Board may act through Committees. In addition to the Committees that must be established by current regulations, or that the Faculty Board agrees to appoint, at least one Standing Committee will be established. The composition and powers of the Committees will be determined by their founding regulations. Otherwise, the agreement adopted by the Board Plenary will apply. The Dean or the Vice-Dean, to whom they delegate, will chair each of these Committees. Generally, they will only have the power to submit reports or proposals on matters within their competence, unless otherwise expressly agreed by the Board Plenary or specified in the founding regulations.
