Globularia salicina Lam.

Common flycatcher, bird tongue

This Macaronesian endemic gets its vernacular name from the shape of its leaves, which resemble a cat's tongue. It is a small shrub, rarely exceeding 1.5 meters in height, and highly branched from the base, forming a cushion-like shape of varying sizes. Its leaves are simple, alternate, and tend to cluster towards the ends of the stems. In these apical regions, nestled among the leaves, appear small flowers that are blue in the center and white at the edges.
