The Canary Islands rockrose (Oro de Risco), named for its spectacular blooms, is an endemic species of the Canary Islands belonging to the legume family. It is important for its ability to symbiotically associate with Rhizobium bacteria, enriching the soil. This large shrub can grow to over 3 meters in height and is easily distinguished by its large, trifoliate leaves. Its flowering is spectacular, with hundreds of blooms appearing each year, typically in December. Sometimes, the plant flowers without any leaves, as it enters a dormant period during the summer, awakening with the first autumn rains. It is a prolific biomass producer, generating a large quantity of large leaves that fall off annually.
