Apocynaceae

Ceropegia fusca Bolle

Gray thistle, saint's fingers, dog killer

The gray cordon plant, belonging to the Apocynaea family, is a succulent that can reach a couple of meters in length when growing as a trailing plant, although its tendency is to grow in a candelabra-like shape. It is a deep gray color, although it can appear black when wet or in its young shoots. The leaves rarely emerge, and if they do, they are black. Its flowers are dark red, and its fruits are horn-like structures containing pappus seeds ready to be released upon opening.
