Canary Islands Flora Garden

Brassicaceae

Crambe strigosa L`Hér.

colderrisco canaria

A woody shrub with striking flowers that can reach up to 1.5 m in height. Its alternate leaves, clustered at the ends of the shoots, are dark green, very rough to the touch, cordate-ovate, and have serrated margins. The flowers have four white petals arranged in a cross shape and clustered in loose, branched racemes. The fruit is a silicle (small spheres that turn black when ripe). This plant is visited by the endemic Canary Island nasturtium butterfly, Pieris cheiranthi.
