Gymnosporia cassinoides (L'Hér.) Masf.

A shrub up to 8 m tall, highly branched from the base. Leaves alternate, simple, light green turning dark with age, ovate, and toothed at the margins. Whitish flowers arranged in umbel-like clusters in the leaf axils. Fruit a capsule with prominent ribs. In some years, flowering is profuse, covering almost the entire shrub. Endemic to Macaronesia.
