A woody shrub that rarely grows taller than 1.5 m, highly branched from its base, with young branches covered in down. Leaves are opposite and decussate (forming a cross), sessile (without a petiole) and somewhat amplexicaul, glabrous (hairless), ovate to ovate-lanceolate, and have small black glands along their margins. Flowers are yellow, with 5 petals of almost 1 cm and numerous stamens in clusters, arranged in terminal racemes. Endemic to the Canary Islands.
