Pericallis lanata (L`Hér.) B. Nord.

Palomera, May flower

A small shrub up to 50 cm tall that covers a large area, losing its leaves in summer and sprouting again with the first autumn rains. It has a creeping, trailing habit, with alternate, nearly round, and toothed leaves, green on the upper surface and almost white on the underside. The flowers are in large, radiate heads with mauve-pink ray florets (outer and irregular) and very dark purple central disc florets. The fruit has a feathery pappus. This plant is endemic to the island of Tenerife.
