A small shrub reaching 1 m in height, highly branched and woody, forming a round or globose crown. Leaves are opposite or whorled (more than two per node), light green, lanceolate, sometimes with hairs on the margins, and somewhat sticky. Flowers are inconspicuous, greenish-white, and arranged in loose panicles (open inflorescences). Fruits are brownish-black, splitting into two parts. Endemic to Macaronesia, growing in the Canary Islands and Madeira.
