Ranunculaceae

Ranunculus cortusifolius Willd.

Morgallana, morgallón, buttercup, grass

Morgallana is a species endemic to the Macaronesian region. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that can grow up to half a meter tall. Its leaves emerge from the base and are large, almost circular in outline, up to 30 cm in diameter, dark green, with shallow lobes. Its flowers are bright yellow, waxy in appearance, and grow in dense inflorescences that rise higher than the leaves. The fruits are small and black when ripe, arranged in a spiral around a fleshy, cylindrical axis. Each fruit contains a single seed. If you don't see me, it's because I'm asleep during the summer.
