A woody shrub that can reach 1 m in height, with square, hairy, erect stems that tend to droop at the ends. The leaves are arranged oppositely, sometimes the upper ones alternate, and are dark green, glossy, and somewhat hairy-glandular. They are broadly ovate with a cordate base and crenate margin. Its yellowish-green flowers grow in terminal inflorescences and produce globose capsules that split open to disperse their seeds. Endemic to the Canary Islands.
