Canary Islands Flora Garden

Sapotaceae

Sideroxylon canariense T. Leyens, Lobin & A. Santos

Marmolán, marmulano

This majestic tree is an endemic species of the Canary Islands, absent only from Lanzarote and La Graciosa, although it is relatively rare on the other islands. It can reach over 10 meters in height, with erect-growing branches, and, like other tree species, it tends to sprout from the roots, producing suckers. Its leaves are large, entire, petiolate, and oblong-lanceolate, growing at the tips of young branches. Its flowers are small, white, and clustered at the ends of the branches.
