Fabaceae

Teline canariensis (L.) Webb & Berthel.

Canary broom, gildana, mountain broom, yellow broom

An evergreen shrub endemic to the Canary Islands, it can reach up to 5 meters in height. It is highly branched from the base and has a tomentose-hairy bark. Its leaves are trifoliate, with ovate-lanceolate leaflets, some hairs on the upper surface and a silky-pubescent underside. Its striking, bright yellow flowers are arranged in clusters at the ends of the branches. These produce pod-like fruits (legumes) containing the seeds.
