FULFILLS THE LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

To access certain doctoral studies, it will be mandatory to prove the language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which will depend on the doctorate you wish to access. See the following link (updated for each admissions period) to see which doctoral programs require language skills and which do not.

It is recommended to request the recognition of language level before submitting the application.

Language proficiency recognition application: Electronic headquarters

It is not necessary to request this recognition if the language level is already accredited through:

  • Subjects passed in ULL degrees.
  • Degrees completed at ULL.

Once the recognition has been granted, It is not necessary to upload any documents to the application, because the system will detect it automatically

PREPARE THE DOCUMENTATION

Before starting the application, make sure you have the following documentation ready:

  1. Official university degree which grants access to the requested doctoral program (the applicant does not need to provide this if the degree is from the ULL). Any degree listed in Article 8 of the Instruction. In it Annex III This instruction details the documentation required to prove the qualification, according to the type of access.
  1. Academic certificate staff of the degree that gives access to the doctorate with grades from 0 to 10 (it is not necessary to present it to the person who holds a degree from the ULL). 
  2. Acceptance document (endorsement) Thesis supervision, for doctoral programs that require it. See Annex I . It must be submitted following the formalized model available on the EDEP website. 
  3. Language proficiency accreditation, for those programs that require it (Annex I), as established in art. 7 of this instruction.
  4. Curriculum vitae, accompanied by the documents that prove the merits claimed, with an index and in a single document in PDF format. 
  5. Other documentation, If appropriate. For example, a cover letter, a letter of recommendation, additional language proficiency certificates, proof of completion of specific activities (knowledge of statistical software, or use of specific research techniques), etc. 
  6. Certificate of qualification and recognition of the degree of disability issued by the corresponding public body, for students who access through the disability quota. 
  7. Accreditation of the part-time dedication regime and the documentation that proves compliance with the requirements to pursue studies under this dedication regime (see Annex IV), for those students who wish to pursue the doctoral program on a part-time basis.
  8. Access to doctoral studies for students with foreign degrees Not recognized in Spain, issued by countries outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). For information on the procedure and required documentation, see section Graduates from abroad |. It is also recommended to contribute the equivalence of the average grade of university studies carried out in foreign centers (Equivalence of grade point averages for university studies completed at foreign institutions – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities – General Secretariat of Universities), If such equivalence is not presented, a average rating of 5.0 for the purpose of evaluating the academic record.

  6. When there are no error messages, review the request and press VALIDATE.
  7. Save the validated request.

A. Graduates in Spain with an official degree and master's degree

Possess official Spanish bachelor's degrees (or equivalent) and university master's degrees (or equivalent), provided that at least 300 ECTS have been passed in both of these courses.

  1. Personal identification documentation DNI, NIE, or failing that, a valid passport and both sides(not necessary for ULL students)
  2. Copy of the Spanish university degree or receipt proving that the fees for issuing the degree have been paid (not necessary if the degree is from the ULL)
  3. Academic record of studies for said degree (with credits) (not necessary if the degree is from ULL) (*)
  4. Copy of the master's degree or proof of payment of fees (not necessary if the degree is from ULL)
  5. Academic transcript of official master's studies (with credits) (not necessary if the degree is from ULL) (*)
  6. If necessary, certificates from other university studies to complete the required 300 credits.
  7. ENDORSEMENT from the thesis supervision: The proposed supervisor must sign the APPLICATION for admission. The application must also indicate the line of research to which the thesis is assigned and the applicant's motivation for completing his or her thesis in this program.
  8. Curriculum Vitae (not mandatory for access, but failure to provide it may reduce the score in the evaluation), accompanied by the documents that prove the merits claimed in a single document in PDF format.
  9. B

B. Graduates in Spain with degrees exceeding 300 ECTS and accredited MECES level 3 (allows access to a doctorate)

Possession of official Spanish university degrees or equivalent Spanish degrees provided that at least 300 ECTS credits have been passed in the set of these courses and a level 3 of the MECES has been accredited.

  1. Personal identification documentation DNI, NIE, or failing that, a valid passport and both sides. (not necessary for ULL students)
  2. Copy of the degree, bachelor's degree, diploma or master's degree or receipt proving payment of the fees for issuing the degree (not required if the degree is from the ULL)
  3. Certification of studies clearly specifying the credits (not necessary if the degree is from ULL)
  4. Academic record of studies for said degree (with credits) (not necessary if the degree is from ULL) (*)
  5. ENDORSEMENT from the thesis supervision: The proposed supervisor must sign the APPLICATION for admission. The application must also indicate the line of research to which the thesis is assigned and the applicant's motivation for completing his or her thesis in this program.
  6. Curriculum Vitae (not mandatory for access, but failure to provide it may reduce the score in the evaluation), accompanied by the documents that prove the merits claimed in a single document in PDF format.

C. Foreigners with a degree from the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)

Possession of a qualification obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems belonging to the (EHEA), without the need for homologation, which accredits a level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework, provided that said qualification qualifies for access to doctoral studies in the country of issue.

  1. Personal identification documentation DNI, NIE, or failing that, a valid passport. both sides.
  2. Copy of the university degree (bachelor's degree or equivalent) from an EHEA member country, or proof of having paid the fees for issuing the degree
  3. Copy of the master's degree from an EHEA country, or proof of payment of the fees for issuing the degree, if applicable.
  4. Academic record of studies for said degree (with credits), both undergraduate and master's (*)
  5. Qualifications issued abroad that are approved in Spain must also include the approval document.
  6. ENDORSEMENT from the thesis supervision: The proposed supervisor must sign the APPLICATION for admission. The application must also indicate the line of research to which the thesis is assigned and the applicant's motivation for completing his or her thesis in this program.
  7. Curriculum Vitae (not mandatory for access, but failure to provide it may reduce the score in the evaluation), accompanied by the documents that prove the alleged merits in a single document in PDF format.
  8. Other documentation (it is not mandatory for access, but failure to provide it may reduce the score in the evaluation), such as a motivation letter, letter of recommendation, additional language proficiency documentation, proof of completion of specific activities (knowledge of statistical software or use of specific research techniques), etc. There is a field for uploading "other documentation" that refers to this specific documentation. D. Foreigners with a degree outside the EHEA, without homologation

Possession of a degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems outside the EHEA, without the need for its homologation, subject to verification by the university that it accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish university master's degree and that it qualifies in the country where the degree is issued for access to doctoral studies.

  1. Personal identification documentation DNI, NIE, or failing that, a valid passport and both sides.
  2. Certification issued by the ULL by which the university certifies a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish university master's degree and which qualifies access to doctoral studies in the country where the degree is issued.
  3. Academic record of studies for said degree (with credits, as applicable, for undergraduate and master's degrees) (*)
  4. ENDORSEMENT from the thesis supervision: The proposed supervisor must sign the APPLICATION for admission. The application must also indicate the line of research to which the thesis is assigned and the applicant's motivation for completing his or her thesis in this program.
  5. Curriculum Vitae (not mandatory for access, but failure to provide it may reduce the score in the evaluation), accompanied by the documents that prove the alleged merits in a single document in PDF format.

Step 0: Before you start

  • Will not be admitted applications submitted by other means that is not telematic, nor submitted after the deadline.
  • It will be the applicant's responsibility to submit the correct documentation within the application deadline.
  • Failure to submit the correct documentation within the established period will be grounds for exclusion.
  • See the calendar and write down the key dates.
  • See the places offered  at each stage of the doctoral program you desire.
  • Check whether the PhD programme allows conditional admission or not. This option only applies to Spanish graduates or foreigners within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
  • What is conditional admission? If the doctoral programme allows it, you can apply and be admitted conditionally, even if you do not have a degree or the required language accreditation. However, at the time of registration you must have met all the requirements.
  • To qualify for conditional admission, must submit a letter of commitment (you must download it in order to edit it) be able to complete your studies before you enroll in the PhD program.

Step 1: Carefully check the access and admission requirements

  • Check the general and specific requirements of each doctoral program.
  • If you are a foreign applicant from outside the EHEA without an approved degree, you will have to obtain a ULL accreditation to be eligible for a doctorate from the ULL. 
  • Students who meet all the entry requirements and who have been recognised as having a disability of 33% or higher will have 5% of the places reserved. In the case of doctoral programmes with fewer than 20 places on offer, one will be reserved.

Step 2: Clearly identify what type of access to a PhD you would have

Depending on the type of access, the documentation that must be submitted will be different. This is detailed in step 6. Now you must correctly identify which type of access you belong to.

Access 1: Possess official Spanish bachelor's degrees (or equivalent) and university master's degrees (or equivalent), provided that at least 300 ECTS have been passed in the combination of these two courses.

Access 2: Possession of official Spanish university degrees or equivalent Spanish degrees provided that at least 300 ECTS credits have been passed in the set of these teachings and accredit a level 3 of the MECES.

Access 3: Possession of a qualification obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems belonging to the EHEA, without the need for homologation, which accredits a level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework, provided that said qualification qualifies for access to doctoral studies in the country of issue.

Access 4: For those who are in possession of a degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems outside the EHEA (not approved), have the ULL accreditation resolution that accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish university master's degree and that qualifies in the country where the degree is issued for access to doctoral studies.

Access 5. Be in possession of another doctorate degree.

Access 6. By obtaining a training place in the corresponding access test for specialized health training places, they have successfully completed at least two years of training in a program to obtain the official degree in one of the specialties in Health Sciences.

Step 3: Obtain a username and password

  • To access the internal computer system of the ULL, you need a credential. If you are already a student at the ULL, you will already have it. If you are not, obtain it at the following address: link, following the steps indicated.
  • You can self-register in Clave or you can obtain the username and password for the Permanent Clave of the Spanish State in the following link

Step 4: Complete the online registration

This requirement is only required in some doctoral programs.

If the PhD allows conditional admission, this requirement can be submitted before registration. However, if the PhD does not allow conditional admission, this requirement must be met at the time of closing the admissions process (before the allocation of places).

Step 5: Complete the online registration

  • A single application will be completed in which you can select, in strict order of preference, up to a maximum of three doctoral programs.
    • Start by entering your username and password obtained in step 3
    • Please only enter the application if you are going to complete your pre-registration (be clear about the doctorates you are applying for and the order of preference), as you are only allowed to enter once. It cannot be changed subsequently the requested programs. 
    • Fill out the access qualification correctly (university where the degree was obtained, name of the degree, etc.).
    • If your degree was obtained in the foreign, is It is very important to mark the correct option (with or without approval in Spain, within or outside the EHEA).

(*) The average grade must be on a scale of 10. Applicants with a foreign degree whose grading system does not coincide with the Spanish one must provide the “Declaration of equivalence of average grade of university studies carried out in foreign centers”, for which they must complete the grade average equivalence declaration form that is available on the website of Ministry of Education and Vocational TrainingIf the average grade is not based on 10 or the declaration of equivalence is not submitted, the application will not be rejected, and the Evaluation Committee will, as a general rule, assign an average grade of 5.0, unless the equivalence applied is duly justified.

E. Be in possession of another doctoral degree

  1. Personal identification documentation DNI, NIE, or failing that, a valid passport and both sides. (no need to submit if the degree is from the ULL)
  2. Copy of the doctoral degree.
  3. Academic transcript of studies (not necessary if the degree is from ULL) (*)
  4. ENDORSEMENT from the thesis supervision: The proposed supervisor must sign the APPLICATION for admission. The application must also indicate the line of research to which the thesis is assigned and the applicant's motivation for completing his or her thesis in this program.
  5. Curriculum Vitae (not mandatory for access, but failure to provide it may reduce the score in the evaluation), accompanied by the documents that prove the alleged merits in a single document in PDF format.
