This talk was given by Juan Manuel Betancort Perdomo, a graduate of the University of La Laguna (ULL) who works at the biotechnology company San Diego Biotech (United States). The development of new drugs is a long and complex process aimed at providing patients with safe and effective medications. In this presentation, he described the initial medicinal chemistry phase of two programs in which Dr. Betancort has participated. Both programs (antiviral and anticancer compounds) have reached the initial phases of clinical trials.

Dr. Peter Langer, a researcher at the University of Rostock, is a Professor of Organic Chemistry and has published approximately 670 scientific articles. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including a gold medal and two honorary doctorates. His research focuses on one-step cyclizations, domino reactions, homogeneous catalysis for organic synthesis, organosilicate chemistry, heterocycles, medicinal chemistry (new antibiotics and anticancer agents), natural products, carbohydrates, and new materials.
