The Andrés Bello University Institute of Linguistics has been carrying out extensive research in the field of theoretical and applied linguistics for almost five decades. The fourteen works collected in this volume offer a good sample of the theoretical and methodological diversity that characterizes the research lines and groups integrated within this center. 2019 | New studies in modern linguistics.
Series: Studien zur romanischen Sprachwissenschaft und interkulturellen Kommunikation Peter Lang D
The research papers collected in this volume cover linguistic topics as diverse as syntax, lexicology, lexicography, dialectology, translation, toponymy, didactics, public discourse, and more, and languages as heterogeneous as Spanish, Berber, Mancañá, and Arabic. They all share a common approach to the problems they address, employing the most recent linguistic methodologies, ranging from contrastive linguistics to gender linguistics, and including linguistic semantics, translation studies, sociolinguistics, onomastics, historiography, discourse linguistics, and phraseology.

2017 | Studies in Memory of Franz Bopp and Ferdinand de Saussure
Series: Studien zur romanischen Sprachwissenschaft und interkulturellen Kommunikation
Edited by Ana Díaz Galán and Marcial Morera
With this collection of works, the Andrés Bello University Institute of Linguistics, which pays homage to the greatest grammarian of the Spanish language, seeks to commemorate two of the most influential linguists of all time: the founder of comparative linguistics, the German Franz Bopp, on the bicentenary of the publication of his "Conjugation System" (1816), and the founder of modern linguistics, the Genevan Ferdinand de Saussure, on the centenary of the publication of his "Cours" (1916). Based on the concepts and methodological distinctions established by these three authors and their successors, the researchers at our center have produced the diverse works on grammatical, lexicological, lexicographical, onomastic, etymological, dialectological, textual linguistics, language planning, language teaching, and other topics included in this volume.

2010 | Trends in general and applied linguistics
Series: Studien zur romanischen Sprachwissenschaft und interkulturellen Kommunikation
Edited by Dolores García Padrón and Maria del Carmen Fumero Pérez
The Andrés Bello University Institute of Linguistics has been developing extensive scientific work for over thirty years in the fields of general and applied linguistics and, more recently, also in psycholinguistics. The works collected in this volume are a sample of the lines of research—morphology, syntax, lexicology, phonetics, phraseology, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, translation, Spanish as a foreign language, lexicography, and textual semantics—currently being carried out within this institution. On this occasion, Spanish in general and its Canarian variety in particular, English, German, Latin, Mancagne, and Arabic are the languages or linguistic varieties addressed by the authors from different perspectives.

2014 | Issues in theoretical and applied linguistics
Series: Studien zur romanischen Sprachwissenschaft und interkulturellen Kommunikation
Edited by Maria del Carmen Fumero Pérez and José Juan Batista
This volume deals with issues of theoretical and applied linguistics. Among the former, it addresses a universal feature of the human mind and language: the need to classify the world around us. The grammatical categories of two languages very different from the Indo-European languages serve as examples: the noun classes of Mancañá (a language of Senegal) and the noun classifiers of Chinese. It also covers word formation in Spanish using prefixes and demonyms. The latter includes studies on Canarian dialectology, translation, travel literature, and second language teaching.

2012 | Studies on language, culture and cognition
Series: Studien zur romanischen Sprachwissenschaft und interkulturellen Kommunikation
Edited by Gerd Wotjak, Dolores García Padrón and Maria del Carmen Fumero Pérez
This volume compiles a selection of works, mostly by researchers from the Andrés Bello University Institute of Linguistics at the University of La Laguna, that deal explicitly or implicitly with the interdependencies between language, culture, and cognition. These contributions, presented alphabetically, fall within well-defined lines of research at this research center, lines that concern general and specific linguistic aspects: phonetics, grammar, lexicology, phraseology, dialectology, sociolinguistic, variational, and pragmatic-discursive aspects, lexicography, historiography, translation studies, psycholinguistics, and didactics, across a wide range of languages such as Spanish, English, German, Latin, and Mancañá.
